BACCH is pleased to announce that from 1st June, members subscribing to the journal Child: Care, Health and Development will be able to access the journal online. Members will be contacted by the journal’s publishers to provide access codes shortly.

Please note: New members joining BACCH part way through the subscription year (1st June-31st May) pay a pro rate membership fee for their first year.

BACCH is:

BACCH has:

  • its own quarterly newsletter, BACCH News
  • its own bi-monthly journal, Child: Care, Health and Development

  • the potential for international networking in community paediatrics through contacts with the Ambulatory Pediatrics Association (APA) of the USA, the European Society for Research in Ambulatory Paediatrics (ESRAP) and the European Society for Social Paediatrics (ESSOP)
  • an annual scientific meeting, and regional meetings
  • launched a Guide to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child
  • published a detailed Syllabus for Higher Specialist Training in Community Child Health
  • produced Briefing Papers on medication in schools; care and child health; child benefit; violence and bullying, etc
  • held joint meetings with, amongst others, the National Children’s Bureau, the Royal College of Nursing, the Community Practitioners & Health Visitors Association
  • lobbied on the school health service
  • developed inter-professional interest groups on disability (Child Disability Group), child protection (Child Protection Interest Group) and child public health (Child Public Health Interest Group).

BACCH will:

  • develop an advocacy programme with other voluntary groups
  • continue to provide educational activities for its members
  • encourage the development of research in community paediatrics
  • improve its links in Europe and the USA
  • fund, through the Donald Court Fund, visiting fellows from Eastern Europe
  • strengthen its influence within the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health
  • improve the training and working practices of all those involved with children and families
  • actively support people in the role of parenting
  • promote research and the dissemination of knowledge related to the health of children in the community

Membership of BACCH is open to all doctors working in child health.

*Other professionals working with children are welcomed as affiliate members.

SACCH is the Scottish sub-group of BACCH, which shares the same constitution but is administered separately to enable Scottish members to hold their own meetings and respond to Scottish issues.
