BACCH News - Spring 2005 (PDF file 2.62MB)

Editor's report on this issue

I feel that this edition of the News contains a spread of articles which should be of interest to Community Paediatricians of every variety. Our Welsh dragon on the cover draws attention to the Welsh NSF page 19 - we have been accused of English bias. At least there is no danger of gender bias with regard to the Dragon – in an exchange of e-mails with David Vickers as to whether I should refer to the Dragon as “he” or “she” David assured me that as a mythical beast the dragon is neither.

The suggestion of a Peer Support Network for Community Paediatricians in PCT’s page by Minoo Irani is food for thought. Our Yorkshire BACCH group leaves time for “networking” at local meetings. Is there scope for more support in the PCT’s - could a Peer Network compliment and enhance BACCH activities? e-mails to the Editor welcomed.

In the Autumn/Winter BACCH News I included a call for Evidence regarding Good Practice in relation to ensuring that children with complex health needs can fully access schooling. This was from Jeanne Carlin who is carrying out a research project managed by the Council for Disabled Children. Unfortunately Jeanne’s e-mail address was mis-spelt. There is still time to send relevant information or examples to: jeanne@jcarlin.karoo.co.uk

Finally this is the first time I have edited without support from Sacha Mitchel who recently left Bosworth Press - he helped me through my complete novice stage. I hope I am becoming more effective - the dates for submission are fixed (see below) and no - I can’t change publication dates to suit the timing of your meeting - I have to be firm but fair!
