Members will be sad to hear that on 3rd October 2025 Dr Lisa Kauffmann died following two years of illness with ovarian cancer. Lisa was Chair of BACCH from 2017 to 2021. Lisa was a community paediatrician in Manchester, and among her many roles she was an associate medical director, leader in medical management and RCPCH Treasurer. Lisa had a longstanding interest in children’s palliative care and founded a palliative care service in Manchester. She also served as Chair of Together for Short Lives, the national children’s palliative care charity.

Above all, Lisa was an advocate for children and also for leadership development for paediatricians, which she saw as a way to improve support for children. She led the development of leadership skills in the RCPCH and was an early Chair of the RCPCH Clinical Directors’ Group which fostered the development of leadership training within the RCPCH. Lisa never made herself the centre of attention and yet was able to influence many lives both as a leader and a clinician.

Dr David Vickers, BACCH Chair, said “ Lisa was my successor as RCPCH Treasurer and showed me how I should have done the role! I was also shameless in copying her work on point prevalence in palliative care, which we implemented in the East of England. Five years on, the date is proving invaluable. And also, she was a fun person to be with. Thank you, Lisa”.  She will be missed.

BACCH is registered in England & Wales, charity no. 1129758 & company no. 06738129 at 5-11 Theobalds Road, London, WC1X 8SH.
